Apple Responds To iPhone 4 Signal Problems

The launch of iPhone 4 yesterday was somewhat spoilt by concerns over a potential design flaw that can lead to reduced signal reception.

The smartphone sports a new antenna design featuring a metal band encasing its outer edge and acting as a 3G and wi-fi receiver, but holding it in a certain way causes the device to lose reception.

Apple played down the problem in a statement to MCV, suggesting it is an issue that affects all wireless handsets.

iPhone 4 sells 1.7 million in first week

Apple’s announced that 1.7 million units of the fourth generation iPhone have been sold since its worldwide release last week.
CEO Steve Jobs has said the launch of the tech has been “the most successful” in the company’s history.
That’s despite recent reports of issues such as bugs and the “grip of death,” with signal being affected by the way the device is held.
“This is the most successful product launch in Apple’s history. Even so, we apologise to those customers who were turned away because we did not have enough supply,” said Jobs.

Jaffe: Twisted Metal in development for 18 months

David Jaffe has revealed that Twisted Metal has been in development by Eat, Sleep, Play for around 18 months.
Speaking via Twitter, the developer revealed to fans when asked: “Oh I’d say about 18 months.
”Jaffe has long denied the game being in in development, in fact at one point he even said that he wouldn’t be attending E3 at all.
Twisted Metal was announced at the end of Sony’s E3 conference, and it’s due for release, exclusively on PS3 in 2011.

Lost Planet 2 patch incoming for PS3 and 360

Capcom has announced that a patch for Lost Planet 2 is to be released.
The update will include difficulty recalibration, balancing, various bug fixes, and re-spawn check points have been added to each section of a map and the boss area.Weapons have also been readjusted, the speed of a players dash has been updated, and loads more.

PS3 gets the patch on June 7, and the one for Xbox 360 is in the works.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution is “a fresh start on the franchise”

Deus Ex: Human Revolution’s game director Jean-Francois Dugas has said that the development team behind the game are “dedicated to re-creating” the Deus Ex experience “for a new generation of gamers” that missed out on it previously.Speaking with Gamespot, Dugas said that as action RPG, the game has a “compelling narrative”, a “great cast of characters” and will allow you to play it the way you want.
‘We wanted a fresh start on the franchise and to make it unique and stand-alone,” he said.

Epic gives Gears of War 3 audio tour

Gears of War 3 executive producer Rod Fergusson and design director Cliff Bleszinski have provided an audio tour of Gears of War 3 in video form.
Each video includes screens and art from the game and are rather large, so they may take a while to load.

Rumor – Sonic Free Riders coming, has Natal support

Looks like SEGA has a new Sonic Racer game in the works for Natal, and it’s to be launched via XBL and announced at E3.
According to a source close to Joystiq, the game is called Sonic Free Riders and it allows players to gain weapons by reaching out to the screen and attack other racers with motion movements.
So basically you’ll be pretending to ride around on a flying vehicle and slap the air to knock around opponents.

Companion characters in SWTOR explained

BioWare’s creative director and lead designer, James Ohlen, has dished on the companion characters in Star Wars: The Old Republic.Turns out, these Companions can not only join your cause for their own reasons, but can also be influenced by you, and are integral to the storyline.
Companions will range from droids to aliens, princess to pirates, and each class has its own unique views, commentary, personality, and will also help out in combat.
“Companion characters have a significant impact on the player’s experience,” Ohlen revealed to IGN. “They are integral to the player’s storyline.

Battlestar Galactica composer to score SOCOM 4

Battlestar Galactica composer Bear McCreary will compose the original score for SOCOM 4.

Guild Wars 2 blog details dynamic events

Over on the Guild Wars 2 site, ArenaNet has revealed some of the dynamic events its toying with for the MMO.
Colin Johanson, lead content designer for the game, has revealed that the traditional quest systems has been nixed, and you will no longer have to “read a huge quest description to find out what’s going on”.
Instead, you will know what is going on by seeing and hearing things going on within the game’s world.

STO: Cryptic holds welcome back weekend, talks future content

Star Trek Online’s executive producer, Craig Zinkievich, has revealed some of the upcoming content for the MMO, and one bit in particular that fans should get a thrill out of, is the addition of Deep Space 9’s roulette-like game Dabo.
There’s also work being done on Memory Alpha, special task force difficulty, Season 2, a skill point cap, Klingon Episodes, and a Federation diplomatic corps.

John Garvin, creative director at Bend Studio, has announced over on the US PS Blog that Syphon Filter: Logan’s Shadow will be made available for PS2 on June 1.Originally released on the PSP in 2007, the game will include some added tweaks for the PS2 controller: a snap button to ease the transition in and out of cover; a “swing out and aim” command for L1; and some re-tuning for the extra analog stick.The devs also updated the textures and effects.While announcing the game, Garvin also revealed that this summer, the first-ever Syphon Filter digital graphic novel will be released.Called Syphon

Bethesda: Doom 4, Rage will show id’s “true potential”

Bethesda’s Pete Hines has said that id’s “true potential” will be shown soon, thanks in part to Doom 4 and Rage.

Speaking with MCV, he said having the studio under the Bethesda family is a “tremendous advantage”.

“id Software brings a wealth of experience and expertise in the first person shooter genre,” said Hines.

“To have a group like id working as an internal studio for Bethesda is a tremendous advantage.
